Margaret ‘Marty’ Gwin Bevarly was born May 16, 1929 in Covington, KY. She transitioned peacefully November 6th after a lengthy illness. Her granddaughter Madison was by her side. She was 95 years young and beautiful until the end.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll, her son William, and her granddaughter Mary MacKinnon. She is survived by her daughter Amy Disparte (Angelo), her daughter Lacey Dintzer (Danny), grandchildren Peter Mackinnon, Benjamin Perlmutter (Liliana), Madison Bevarly, and great grandson Nathan Perlmutter.
Margaret led an active life and raised her children in Smiths Grove where she was a resident for over 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who also found time to give back to her community. She became an active member of Smiths Grove Baptist Church in 1960 when she first moved there from Covington and taught many Sunday School classes at the church over the years. She was a member and past president of the Smiths Grove Women’s Club and among the first women in politics in Warren County when she was elected Mayor of Smiths Grove in 1976. Margaret worked tirelessly with other members of Smiths Grove Women’s Club to establish the first library in Smiths Grove, and she was very proud of that accomplishment. The library was a huge success, integral to the community, and eventually incorporated into the Bowling Green Warren County Public Library system.
Whatever Margaret Bevarly decided to do, she did well. A talented watercolorist, Margaret won local competitions and displayed her paintings in many local exhibitions over the years. She believed maintaining personal physical fitness was the foundation of good health and essential to quality of life. Margaret loved to swim and was as comfortable in the water as she was on land. She was a proud member of the Glasgow YMCA where she exercised regularly.
A lifelong animal lover, Margaret was welcomed at the rainbow bridge by dozens of dogs, barking and wagging their tails and a few cats purring loudly. Many of those beloved companions were adopted from the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society.
Although Margaret was a ‘city girl,’ she adapted beautifully to small town life in Smiths Grove. She loved everything about Smiths Grove, especially the people who lived there. With her husband Carroll, they built a successful business that supported the community for almost 50 years. Together they purchased a beautiful farm just outside Smiths Grove where they learned to farm and fell in love with life in the country.
Special praise and gratitude goes to Mrs. Patsy Hudson, Margaret’s companion and caretaker who made the last years of Margaret’s life wonderful. Patsy cared for Margaret as if she were her own mother and Margaret loved Patsy like a daughter.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations honoring Margaret’s life be made to Smiths Grove Baptist Church, Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society, or Bowling Green Warren County Public Library.
