James “Jim” Bucklew, 62, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 at his home. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 31 years, Karen, and daughters Jamie and Kara.
Jim was born August 15, 1961, in Morgantown, WV, to the late Edward and Ina (Bird) Bucklew. He was well known as the youngest and wildest of their four boys, and his mother often praised God for giving Jim his sweet baby sister, Shelly.
Jim loved being a veteran of the US Navy, serving on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier, and he told many stories of his overseas adventures. After his military service, he returned to Bowling Green, KY to start the two most important parts in his life journey- his family and his fellowship with Alcoholics Anonymous. Jim learned that he could not have one without the other, and he spent much of his life helping his fellow alcoholic. It was during this time that he truly gave his life over to the care of God. Jim’s greatest joy in life was the day he became a Papaw. Jim spent the last five years of his life battling Huntington’s Disease; however, his love for his family, his trust in Jesus, and his program truly allowed him to live his life to the absolute fullest.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen; daughter Jamie (Ethan) Holloway; daughter Kara (Gary) Cox; grandchildren Landon, Emmett, Rowan, and Tessalyn; sister Shelly; brother Leslie (Patti) Bucklew; brother Larry (Kim) Bucklew; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He has been reunited with his loving parents, Edward and Ina Bucklew, and brother Terry Bucklew.
Funeral arrangements for Jim are in care of Hardy and Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. Visitation will be Friday February 16th from 3PM-7PM, and Saturday February 17th from 9AM to 11AM followed by the funeral service and burial at Bowling Green Gardens Cemetery. All are welcome to come as they are, as Jim wanted a “joyous big southern funeral.”
Floral arrangements are in care of Madison’s Flowers Inc (Brownsville KY). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Huntington’s Disease Youth Orginization at https://www.hdyo.org/a/587-donate-to-the-huntington-s-disease-youth-organization.
