Eddie Michael Cooke, age 82, went to his heavenly home Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Skyline Hospital in Nashville, Tn.
Eddie was born August 20, 1942 in Edmonson County, Ky, was a native of Smiths Grove, Ky, but more recently had lived in Frankfort and Glasgow, Ky. He was the son of the late Edwin P Morrow Cooke and Stella Marie (Renfro) Cooke. He graduated in 1960 from North Warren High School. Eddie farmed with his daddy as a youth then owned and farmed his own farm as a young man.
Eddie worked at Southern Explosives Corp. as a blasting specialist, flying by plane and helicopter into the mountains of KY and West Va.
He also enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, woodworking and most of all camping. He and his family enjoyed camping for whole summers at a time at Green River Campground.
Eddie was a family man and enjoyed most of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren, of which he had 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and another due soon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Coffey Cooke of Glasgow, and was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Wanda Lee Cooke. He is also survived by 4sons, Jeff Cooke (Janet) of Scottsville, Joey Cooke (Gigi) of Bowling Green, Troy Cooke (Jaime) of Harrodsburg, Ty Cooke (Paige) of Frankfort. Daughters Angela Cooke McDonald (Jeff) of Frankfort and Hannah Nicole Cooke of Frankfort along with the 28 grand and great grandchildren. Eddie also had numerous nieces and nephews that all loved him dearly. He is also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Noble Ray.
Eddie was a jokester, comedian, and an all-around fun man. He never met a stranger, loved to talk and could tell the greatest tall tales! He also was a devout Christian, driving many years from Frankfort to Louisville to attend his church and more recently 120 miles one way from Glasgow to Louisville. He will be sorely missed by many that knew and loved him.
One of the most thrilling stories Eddie loved to tell was about surviving a helicopter crash in the mountains of West Va in 1978. He walked away unscathed; said he was not scared going down as he knew he was saved and where he would be if he didn’t survive. He stated he would never be in another helicopter but sadly, his last ride was in a helicopter from Glasgow to Skyline Hospital in Nashville on February 7th.
