Riz Dunaway
Riz Dunaway, 58, of Bowling Green, died Sept. 18, 2018, at her home.
Born Deborah Jean Dunaway on Aug. 16, 1960, in Mississippi, she was the daughter of Jerry Dunaway and the late Jean Dunaway. She is survived by a brother, Michael, and his wife, Debbie, and an aunt, Patsy Harper.
Riz earned a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Western Kentucky University in 1993. She served as a nurse in the United States Army and worked at Greenview Hospital, as well as facilities in Nashville and Louisville.
A friend of Bill W’s since the 1990s, Riz’s knowledge of the Big Book, the workings and principles of the program it set forth, and the history of the fellowship was extensive. She carried the message and helped countless others in extraordinary ways. She had tremendous kindness, a great sense of humor, and her friends came from all walks of life, from country folk to city slickers, the prominent and well-to-do to the poor and downtrodden. She valued every human life and was passionate about social justice, the homeless, and LGBTQ issues. She loved history, traveling, and learning, the Kentucky Derby, Hot Rods games, and hanging out with friends.
Internment will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the veteran’s section of Fairview Cemetery. A celebration of Riz’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the 13th Street Clubhouse. Please bring snacks, photographs and memories to share.
