Alta Marie Dunn

Alta Houchin Dunn, 91, of Smiths Grove passed away peacefully with family at her side on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Greenwood  Nursing and Rehab.

The Edmonson County native was born February 24, 1931 to Estele and Bertha Jaggers Houchin.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carla Dunn Walla; sisters, Cleva Cole, Mildred Watt, Grace Watt, Allie Watt, Fern Hudgens and Lois Dunn; her brothers, Lloyd, Coy and Max Houchin.  Alta was a homemaker and a caregiver for many children, including her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.  She was known to all as “Poo”.  She was a member of Otter Gap Baptist Church.

Leaving to cherish her memory is her children, Jerry “Red” Dunn, Cynthia Jutz (James), Maria Elkins (Steve), Janet Harper (Tim) and Lorrie Smith (Carl); 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and seven great- great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Tuesday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Grove Chapel with burial in Hays Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday and 9-12 Tuesday at the funeral home.
